Tagalog (Pilipino) is the national language of the Philippines. In 1962, it was made the country's official language, and given the new name of Pilipino. About 40 million people worldwide speak it. USA, UAE, Canada, Guam, UK and Saudi Arabia are other countries where Tagalog speakers live.

Tagalog uses Roman alphabet. It stresses on the second syllable. Spanish left a strong imprint on its vocabulary. Indonesian has also influenced it.
