Fiji (Fijian) is the official language of Fiji, a republic in the Central Pacific Ocean. It is spoken by about 0.7 million people worldwide. Kadavu, Viti Levu, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Nauru are some of the other countries where Fijian speakers live.

Fijian uses Roman script. Its alphabet lacks the letters h, x and z, while the letters f, j and p only appear in foreign words. Fiji was originally settled around 4000 years ago. There are some 300 regional dialects of Fijian. Fijian is used by Fijians exclusively but Pacific Islanders, Europeans and Hindu Indians residing in Fiji also speak it fluently.
