Burmese is the national language of Burma. It is spoken by 35 million people worldwide of whom 30 million live in Burma. India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Thailand and China are other countries where Burmese speakers live.

Burmese alphabet consists of circular drawings in various combinations. It evolved at a time when writing was done on palm leaves, the straight lines were impossible as they would cause the leaf to split. It has 32 consonants and 10 vowels.
